At StreetSmart, we want to promote critical reasoning, situational thinking, and effective communication skills among high school students from underserved communities. By recognizing that soft skills cannot be acquired through classroom instruction alone, our program operates with a novel, practice-first paradigm.
By being put in situations where students must use their critical thinking and teamwork skills, they are prepared to confidently and smoothly navigate future academic and professional workspaces with the exact tools they need.
The program will be structured around an interconnected curriculum involving learning and action elements like the following:
SeatSmart Workbook: A reasoning guide with short analytical activities, questions, and problem-solving scenarios that build analytical and critical thinking.
MeetSmart Primer: A 5-module framework for conversational clarity and control that utilizes the Point-Reason-Example methodology to educate students how to articulate their thoughts.
TeachSmart Sessions: Workshops that introduce simulations of real-life situations to make informed decisions and stay calm in unusual situations through immersive role-play and guided problem-solving.
SmartStart Summer School (4S): A multi-part summer programme for middle schoolers that combines MeetSmart foundation courses with collaborative design-thinking projects.
ReachSmart Collection Drive: A crowdsourcing and fundraising campaign to sustain the program's environment. Funds directly support Fly Higher (FHI), which provides grassroots educational resources and academic infrastructure.
